Forestry & Timber Certification

& Timber

Preserving the future of our forests by verifying timber product source of origin.

Forests are crucial to the maintenance of our planet’s environmental equilibrium and biosphere. Companies using wood products, such as paper, furniture and timber must demonstrate a commitment to sustainable sourcing of products, services and suppliers.

Preserving forests is an environmental essential. Trees absorb CO2, reduce flooding, minimise soil erosion and provide crucial, biodiverse habitats for innumerable species. Preventing deforestation by adopting responsible timber-sourcing practices is key to preserving land, wildlife and the water cycle.

Bureau Veritas provides a range of Forest and Timber assurance services including:

coc: Chain of Custody Certification for Wood Products

From logs to end consumers, throughout the timber value chain, Bureau Veritas offers Timber & Wood Product Chain of Custody certification, a voluntary process that verifies that the timber originates from certified sustainably-managed forests. Chain of Custody certification can grant your organisation key access to many key international markets.

PEFC™: Managing risk for sustainable forestry

The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC™) determines that forest management processes are ethical and sustainable. PEFC’s risk-management approach to forest product procurement allows you to identify and overcome risks in your supply chain. Bureau Veritas provides internationally recognised certification to PEFC ™ standards.

FSC®: Going the extra mile in sustainable forestry

The FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) is an independent, not-for-profit NGO (Non-Governmental Organisation) established to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests and was founded in 1993. Forest Management is a voluntary standard that supports sustainable forestry management and timber product creation. You can find our accreditation here.

The five FSC® Controlled Wood categories of unacceptable sources as well as definitions of FSC® Controlled Wood are described in the FSC® standard for Controlled Wood FSC-STD-40-005 V3-1.

Bureau Veritas Certification, as an independent Certification Body accredited by ASI to deliver Chain of Custody Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) certification, performing audits according to the requirements of FSC-STD-40-005 V3-1 (“Requirements for Sourcing FSC® Controlled Wood”).

The delivery of FSC® certification services is in association with Bureau Veritas Certification Holding SAS.

Australian Wood Packaging Certification Scheme (AWPCS) for export

Wood packaging such as pallets, dunnage, crating, packing blocks, drums, cases, spools bulkheads, load boards, pallet collars, and skids used in the transport of commodities during export are often made from unprocessed raw wood. Packaging of this nature provides a pathway for the introduction and spread of pests and diseases and therefore poses a significant plant health risk.

Bureau Veritas provides certification in accordance with the AWPCS, a Certification Scheme that ensures that Australian treatment providers and wood packaging manufacturers produce wood packaging material that meets the ISPM 15 Standard for exports.
