Updates on AS/NZS 4801:2001

Jul. 16 2020

Standards Australia and Standards New Zealand have adopted ISO 45001:2018 and re-issued it as AS/NZS 45001:2018.  AS/NZS 4801:2001 has been listed as superseded by both Standards organisations.

Organisations that are certified to AS/NZS 4801:2001 and are not subject to an imposed requirement to maintain the certification are required to migrate to ISO 45001:2018 (AS/NZS ISO 45001:2018) by 13th July 2023.

Examples of an “imposed requirement” include legislation/regulation, legal contractual obligation, etc.

With agreement of the certified organisation, the CAB can conduct migration activities during a routine surveillance, recertification audit or a special audit. Where migration audits are carried out in conjunction with scheduled surveillance or recertification then a minimum of 1 audit day is required to be added to cover requirements implied by ISO 45001:2018. There is no requirement to complete a stage 1 audit unless there was a need to make significant changes to the system in order to comply with the new standard.
