Bureau Veritas certifies Beca in ANZ to BIM International Standard
ISO 19650-2

Feb. 21 2022

Bureau Veritas Australia Pty Ltd (Bureau Veritas) is proud to announce that Beca’s New Zealand and Australian businesses has achieved certification to ISO 19650-2: Organization and digitization of information about buildings and civil engineering works, including building information modelling (BIM).

Bureau Veritas has been at the forefront of the global BIM certification transformation since late 2018, when ISO 19650 was recognised as an international standard for using digital technologies to drive more efficient and sustainable methods of design and construction for the full project lifecycle, from design to de-commissioning.

“Bureau Veritas offers a broad portfolio of testing, inspection and certification services globally and we are proud to introduce this new BIM ISO 19650 certification capability across the Pacific Region. Organisations seeking certification will now have more alternatives when selecting their provider and can rely on the expertise of a company operating for almost 200 years” Jeremy Leu, General Manager Certification said.

“Bureau Veritas has a long standing relationship of more than a decade with Beca and we are delighted for them to receive our first ISO 19650 certificate in the Pacific. This is a true reflection of Beca’s commitment to best industry practice in the BIM sphere that will further increase confidence of their stakeholders.”

“There’s no doubt the digital evolution of the Architecture, Engineering and Construction sector has ramped up as a result of the need to find different ways of working during the pandemic. And with this, has seen an increased appetite for ISO 19650 certification. There are many practical benefits at all levels from ISO 19650, including better communication across the entire project and delivery teams from adopting a standard, consistent language for collaboration, through to better and greener outcomes.”

Beca’s Technical Director – Digital Engineering Advisory, Glenn Jowett, said, “Beca is always investing in ways to improve our delivery for the benefit of our clients. We want our clients to have confidence in our commitment to excellence and to the ongoing upskilling of our processes and teams so they know our people and approaches are compliant to the world’s best standards.”

By having a consistent language and structure thanks to ISO 19650, common practices and procedures including automation become easier to implement, which leads to more efficient outcomes.

“Beca is proud to be leading the way in embedding the ISO 19650 standard in our projects here in New Zealand. The international recognition that attaches with this certification also means that Beca and our offices not just here in New Zealand and Australia but across the Asia-Pacific can take our specialised services into other markets and know our expertise has been independently and objectively certified.

“The process of working with Bureau Veritas was really simple and streamlined and highly professional. We did an initial gap analysis and then took the time to further develop some of our processes before proceeding first to the stage one audit of our systems and processes and then to stage two, which included some of our projects in New Zealand and Australia.”
