Managing Environmental Legal Risks
Free Breakfast Business Briefing

Aug. 14 2019

In the final event in the Bureau Veritas Environment & Sustainability speaker serries for 2019 we will discuss topics around the management of social, environmental and economic risks and what you as a business leader can be doing to reduce your exposure and meet your legal obligations in a rapidly changing market.

Summary

The Victorian Government is implementing a new approach to environmental protection that will place new duties to protect the environment on all Victorians and introduce significantly increased penalties of more than $3 million for companies and up to five years imprisonment for individuals.

Business will need to review their environmental management systems and portfolio of properties to ensure that they (and their directors and executive management team) are ready for the new laws.

Over the next three-six months the EPA and Victorian Government will be engaging with industry stakeholders and the community regarding the range of regulations, compliance codes and other guidance documents that need to be put in place before the Act commences (expected 1 July 2020).

This seminar will:

  • explain the new laws;
  • highlight areas where you can get involved in making submissions on the regulations;
  • provide practical steps that you can take to get ready.

Date/Time: Thursday 5 September 2019, 7.30am - 9.30am
Location: International Chamber House, Level 5, 121 Exhibition Street, Melbourne VIC 3000 Australia
