Bureau Veritas Asset Integrity & Reliability Services’ (BV AIRS) traineeship program has gone from strength to strength, and now has 52 trainees posted at 17 of its branches across Australia.

The program started in 2003 to train technical engineers, and works in conjunction with Newcastle Tafe to provide them with an Advanced Diploma in Engineering – Technical. Most of the studies are completed via correspondence, with some face-to-face tuition for local Newcastle-based students.

Despite the Global Financial Crisis, BV AIRS employed 32 new trainees in 2009. The demand for the company’s asset integrity and reliability services is continuing to grow, and the traineeship program was established to ensure BV AIRS overcomes skill shortages in providing non-destructive testing engineering solutions. The work demand is primarily being driven from the Mining, Oil and Gas industries, as well as other areas such as construction.

The traineeship program, which takes up to five years to complete, has produced nine graduate Technical Engineers.
The most recent intake of 14 trainees will commence their Advanced Diploma on 8 February.

It’s anticipated further recruitment drives will be held again mid-year and at the end of 2010.
