FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
The specific duty (Regulation 4 of CAR 2006) is to “manage” ACM, so the absolute requirement is to have an Asbestos Management Plan. The cornerstone of this, however, is an asbestos register (or survey report) which lists the areas where asbestos is present, assesses the risk and makes management recommendations.
The Plan has to be reviewed when any significant changes take place and at least annually. There is also a requirement to reinspect the identified ACM annually to ensure damage or deterioration has not occurred. And if you have asbestos removed or remediated then the register should also be updated. If the register does not have the most up to date information, you could end up spending more time and money managing asbestos that does not exist.
