Indoor Air/Environmental Quality Assessments
Assess indoor air / environmental quality (IAEQ) and employee comfort within office environments.
Buildings exist to protect people from the elements and to otherwise support human activity. Buildings should not make people sick, cause them discomfort, or otherwise inhibit their ability to perform. How effectively your building functions to support its occupants, and how efficiently the building operates to keep costs manageable is a measure of the building's performance.
Indoor air quality is a major business concern. Studies conducted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), and others, show that indoor environments can contain concentrations of pollutants that are higher than concentrations found outdoors. A USEPA Report to Congress concluded that improved indoor air quality can result in higher productivity and fewer lost work days. USEPA estimates that poor indoor air may cost the nation tens of billions of dollars each year in lost productivity and medical care.
What is an IAEQ assessment?
The purpose of an IAEQ assessment is to assess standards of health and comfort within indoor environments such as the workplace. Bureau Veritas HSE Pty Ltd (BVHSE) carries out inspections, testing, and long term monitoring to provide organisations with appropriate recommendations and solutions. Specific issues that can be covered include air quality and odours, airborne micro-organisms, fibres and drinking water quality.
What are the key benefits?
• Allow organisations to anticipate and control potential risks;
• Help build and maintain good reputation;
• Independent, impartial advice on reporting;
• Help maintain current workforce productivity and;
• Compliance with relevant Regulation and guidelines
Bureau Veritas HSE Pty Ltd provides a complete range of services tailored to each client’s specific needs, including investigating environmental concerns, sick building syndrome and building-related illness complaints, as well as providing a wide variety of proactive Indoor Air / Environmental Quality (IAEQ) services. With the absence of Australian Legislation for most IAEQ concerns, Bureau Veritas’ services follow the intent of Standards Australia, ISO Standards, the EPA, World Health Organization (WHO), as well as the consensus guidelines and protocols of professional organisations, such as the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Inc. (ASHRAE), the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) and others as required.
When initially responding to an IAEQ concern, Bureau Veritas will listen to understand the specific building conditions prompting our services. We then ask what objectives are trying to be met by having an IAEQ evaluation, and determine which evaluation techniques can best meet the objectives.
Bureau Veritas will develop an informal, initial hypothesis of what we believe may be related to the IAEQ issues and design an applicable project Scope of Work.
Why are indoor air/environmental quality issues a concern if there are no regulations?
All issues relating to Health, Safety and the Environment are receiving increasing public attention. It is advisable for all organisations wishing to protect their employees, their reputation and their finances to consider these issues, even if no official legislation exist.
