Knowledge Webinar ISO 9001:2015 - Knowledge Risk, Responsibilities and Rewards

02/11/17

One of the least understood aspects of ISO 9001:2015 are the new knowledge provisions (part of the “High Level Structure”). For the first time, ISO 9001:2015 contains clauses where organisations should consider organisational knowledge as a manageable resource needed to provide conformity in products, services and processes.

In 2011, ISO surveyed thousands of certified companies looking at user needs, opportunities for improvement and the development of long term quality management strategies. 72% of the 6,299 respondents’ listed managing knowledge as important to be included in future releases of the quality standard (in the top 5).

The Standard deals with knowledge in several different ways, predominately in 4.4, 7.1.6, 7.2, 7.5 and the Annex.

KNOW-HOW MANAGEMENT AND RISK

“Risk-based thinking” is a requirement of the new Standard (6.1). Addressing these requirements should include the five know-how management risks – acquisition, continuity, articulation, outsourcing and supply chain risk.
